Inspiration: YAYOI KUSAMA
This Autumn the Victoria Miro Gallery has opened its doors from 3 October – 21 December to the highly-anticipated exhibition by Yayoi Kusama: THE MOVING MOMENT I WENT TO THE UNIVERSE.
Due to it’s popularity the exhibition is currently sold out. It includes paintings, works from the iconic My Eternal Soul Series, painted pumpkins and flower sculptures. In addition to the debut of large-scale Infinity Mirrored Room: My Heart Is Dancing Into The Universe which plays on ideas of infinity and repetitive spotted patterns covering the surrounding objects.
Born in Matsumoto City, Japan in 1929, Kusama studied painting in Kyoto before moving to New York in the late 1950s, and by the mid-1960s had become well known in the avant-garde world for her provocative happenings and exhibitions.
Kusama is renowned for her fusion of repetitive spot motifs and bold use of colour. Her work continues to be inspired by circular shapes, cosmic infinity, growth, fertility and personal obsession. In her early childhood, she began to experience terrifying hallucinations which have intriguingly influenced her work.
Likewise to Kusama, the RUIFIER in-house design team are continually inspired by circles, geometric shapes and cosmic forms which are seen throughout our jewellery collections. Embrace the spirit of Yayoi Kusuma and recreate her style with bold jewels and sphere like forms.
